Baby koala Tiny Teddy, orphaned when his mother was killed by a car, desperately needs a substitute mum - dead or alive. Wildlife carer Kirsa Veal at Kolora Wildlife Shelter in Victoria, Australia, said Teddy has almost no hope unless she can extract a gut compound from another koala that is vital to feed the little marsupial if he is to survive. The flora in the gut of an adult koala will protect his stomach against the toxins in eucalyptus leaves he will eat later. Ms Veal collected some from Teddy’s dead mother, but needs more as he struggles to gain weight and avoid infection. She hopes residents in southwest Victoria will help source a road-kill female koala who can be used to save Teddy.
